QuitWorks-RI is a free, evidence-based stop-smoking service developed by the Rhode Island Department of Health.
About QuitWorks-RI
QuitWorks-RI utilizes a fax referral quit smoking helpline that offers guidance and support to patients by means of a personalized, telephonic, tobacco cessation counseling system. This counseling service is free to all Rhode Island residents regardless of health insurance status. This process also closes the referral loop by providing status and outcome reports back to referring clinicians.
Outreach and recruitment efforts began in June 2006 to various hospitals and community health centers around the state.
The focus of the QuitWorks-RI program has evolved to one of Health Systems Change. We are working across a number of healthcare settings and with a number of providers to create sustainable, integrated solutions at the health care organization level, changes in health care policy and standardized processes for identifying tobacco users and referring those users to QuitWorks-RI. One of our goals is to improve the health of the community by providing the education, tools, and support necessary to create positive outcomes for tobacco cessation.
If you know of practices which may be interested in adopting the program, please email Brenda Jenkins, Quitworks Coordinator at bjenkins@healthcentricadvisors.org
